Free childcare activities now available for Australian families

Lifelong Learning at Home - a national online resource hub - is now available to support families currently self-isolating with their children.

Created early childhood education experts and early childhood teachers from around Australia, Lifelong Learning at Home, directed by Dr Lesley Jones, Senior Advisor Pedagogy and Practice of the Lifelong Learning Centres community, incorporates daily and weekly programs, downloadable resources, videos, activities, and information for families.

"Developing an online support platform for families has been a 30-year career long dream for me, and there has never been a more critical time to provide this for Australian families," said Dr Lesley.

"We know that for many families, their children's early education has taken an unexpected detour back to home, and that situation may remain unchanged for weeks or even months ahead."

"While the hub has been developed as an immediate response to COVID-19 for our families and children who are currently self-isolating, it will grow in content and resources over the weeks and months ahead, to sit alongside the early education and care prorams we offer in our centres around Australia."

Three streams of programs have been designed to suit babies aged 0-1 years, toddlers aged 1-3 years, and children aged 3-5 years.

Dr Lesley said the input of early childhood educators and teachers from around Australia who are part of the Lifelong Learning Centres community had been wonderfully positive.

"Our educators are passionate about supporting children's learning - and supporting families, and they are eager to see children benefit from these resources, especially at this very disruptive time," she said.

The weekly programs available through Lifelong Learning at Home are limited to enrolled families, and are provided via Storypark.

"All families are welcome to browse our activities blog and dedicated Lifelong Learning Centres YouTube channel which features authentic content filmed in our child care centres, including a very special Story Time playlist featuring our people from around Australia," Dr Lesley said.
